This Wednesday oyster farmers gathered in Narooma from all estuaries along the South Coast for the first official meeting of Australian Oyster Coast marketing group, which has the aim of promoting the oyster industry on the south coast of NSW.
This is an exciting development and is based on the environmental management systems (EMS) instigated in all estuaries along the coast over the last 2 years.
Andrew Wales the new CEO said “this is the first oyster region in the world to promote and market their product based on their sustainable credentials.”
Growers are hopeful that consumers will be able to source quality oysters from AOC members at accredited wholesalers and retailers in all cities and via a documented oyster trail from Shoalhaven River in the north to Wonboyn River in the south.
It is hoped that a valuable regional industry will be able to showcase our beautiful oysters and the industry will prosper into the future.
